Jason T. Gaffney
Candidate: Convention Delegate
Candidate Bio
I’ve been a proud member of SAG-AFTRA since 2013. After having the privilege of serving as a Strike Captain during the 2023 strike, I was honored to serve on the LA Local Organizing, MORE, Strike Preparedness, Conservatory, and Performers with Disabilities Committees along with the National Strike Preparedness Committee these past two years.
One of the projects that I’m most proud to have achieved during my Committee work tenure was the “Inclusion: Time to Get Real” social media video campaign with the Performers with Disabilities Committee for National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
I’m a big believer in the idea that if there isn’t a seat at the table for you, you bring your own. As a half-deaf gay man, I am well aware of how often groups can be left behind and out of the conversation in our industry. My hope, should I be given the privilege to serve as a Convention Delegate, is to help get more seats at the table for marginalized and often overlooked groups to strengthen our voices in negotiations and on set.
We are blessed to be able to work in one of the most rewarding and challenging industries on this planet. I’ve been in entertainment for the past 30+ years. As a six-year-old kid, I knew that I found home when I was first on stage in a production of “Oliver!” Over the years, my career has taken many twists and turns and I’ve worn many different hats, but my true love is performing and working with my fellow performers. I can tell you with absolute certainty that when we all work together, we are capable of not just great storytelling, but also solidarity and protections for each other in the workplace.
